Abstract
hemprrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is an acute infectious disease caused by hantavirus and clinically characterized by fever, abdominal pain, hemorrhagic manifestations, shock and renal failure. Clinical materials consisted of 98
patients
who
had been admitted in Department of Internal Medicine in Chonbuk University hospital from 1986 to 1992. All patients were confirmed to have hemorrhagic fever with renal sydrome by indirect immunofluoresecent antibody technique. In the present
study,
we
have analysed sonographic findings of the kidney which were performed as a part of routine tests in patients with this disease. The study was concentrated on the oliguric stage of the disease when pathologic changes culminate. Thirty-one patients
out of
98 patients (31.6%) showed abnormal sonographic findings. They consisted of increased echogenicity in 14 cases (45.2%), both renal enlargement in 9 cases929%), central echo complex compression in 5 cases (16.1%), and decreased medullary echo
denisity in
4 cases (12.9%). Overall mortality rate was 3.1%.
In Korea where all HFRS, leptospirosis and scrub typhus were prevalent, author make need every efforts for early differential diagnosis and meticulous therapy.
